You’ve Done The Research. The Horror Stories You Found Are Real.

The forum horror stories come from heat pumps someone guessed at.

You’ve priced up Octopus or BOXT, and now you want to know if any local heat pump installer designs the system before a unit goes on the wall.

What we hear on surveys:

  • “I’m scared heat pumps don’t work.”
  • “I’m just worried we won’t be warm enough with stone walls.”

We measure the house first, so you see the heat loss figure and the running costs on paper before you spend a penny.

What Makes Our Heat Pump Installation Different?

The person in the videos measures your house, designs your system and stands behind it.

  • Designed to a SCOP of 3.5 to 4.0 (units of heat per unit of electricity), workings in your quote

  • A 2-year workmanship guarantee on our installation, alongside the manufacturer’s warranty

  • If the numbers don’t work, we say so before you spend a penny

  • Our lead engineer does the survey, and nobody sells on that visit

The System, Assembled Part By Part

Every part is sized to the figure your house produced, from the outdoor unit to the controls.

  1. Your House Sets The Size

Room-by-room heat loss calculation first, on our own measurements.

    • Stone Wall
    • Wall Bracket
    • Base Tray
    • Coil
    • Fan Motor
    • Fan
  2. Then The Unit Is Chosen

The outdoor unit is picked to match the figure your house produced rather than a standard size.

    • Compressor
    • Front Panel
    • Fan Guard
    • Top Panel
  3. Emitters And Pipework Sized With It

Underfloor loops only where the number calls for them, and the design names which radiators grow.

    • Refrigerant Lines
    • Flow Pipe
    • Return Pipe
  4. Commissioned To The Numbers

Proved on site against the same design figures, with the warranty registered in your name.

The Running-Cost Numbers, On Paper

Three figures worth having in front of you, then the unit prices that set the break-even.

  • 3.5 to 4.0
Target SCOP: units of heat for each unit of electricity you pay for
  • £7,500
Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant (£9,000 for off-gas homes until 31 March 2027), claimed by an MCS-certified installer. Ours is in progress.

  • Electricity per kWh

SCOP 3.3
The break-even point against gas

Below 3.3, a heat pump costs more to run than gas. We design for 3.5 to 4.0 and put the working on paper. Electricity carries no VAT from 1 October 2026 to 31 March 2027 while gas still carries 5%, so once VAT returns the break-even rises to about 3.5.

“My house is warmer with a heat pump than it was with a boiler”

Hear firsthand from our customer Fraser about how installing a heat pump has transformed his day to day living.

We’ve turned his cold 18th-century end terrace house into a comfortable, efficient home. No more waiting for the boiler to heat up the house in the morning.

Fraser’s property now sits at a consistent 19°C all year round.

The Doubts Worth Settling Before You Book Anything

A Stiebel Eltron heat pump we fitted on a galvanised wall bracket against a stone wall, its fan facing out from the house, with the pipework running down into the wall below
  • Heat pumps only work with solar and batteries.

No. Solar and battery join a full renewables package only when the maths supports it.

  • Will it work in my old stone house?

Nesta surveyed more than 2,500 heat pump owners: 83% of those in Victorian or older homes are satisfied, level with new builds. Stone needs a proper heat loss calculation, and that is our first step anyway.

  • Will it cost more to run than gas?

Under the October to December 2026 price cap, electricity is 26.32p a unit against gas at 7.97p, so a heat pump needs a SCOP above 3.3 to cost less to run than gas. We design for 3.5 to 4.0 and show you the working.

  • Will all my radiators need replacing?

The design names each radiator that stays and each one that grows. No blanket replacements.

  • How noisy is the outdoor unit?

Stiebel Eltron’s German engineering is built for low running noise, and where the unit sits is part of the design too: away from bedrooms, with conservation areas allowed for.

Can I get the air source heat pump grant?

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme takes £7,500 off an eligible air source or ground source heat pump. Off-gas homes replacing oil or LPG heating get £9,000 instead, on applications made by 31 March 2027. Grant claims run through MCS certification and ours is in progress, so ask at the survey and you get the current position, explained straight.

Common Questions About Heat Pumps

Between 1 week and 1 month, depending on the size of the house and the system. We agree duration and disruption in the quote before we start.

Off-gas homes on oil or LPG can get the £9,000 grant rate until 31 March 2027. Round here that means Edale, parts of the Hope Valley and the oil and LPG homes around Chinley. An MCS-certified installer claims it, and our certification is in progress, so ask where it stands at the survey. We run your running-cost comparison there too, rather than promising it in advance.

We handle siting, conservation areas and planning rules inside the design, before we promise anything.

Yes, and if you tell us now we design for the solar panels now, so nothing gets bought twice.

Our office books it, our lead engineer surveys and designs, then installs with the team behind him: real people who measured your house first. The team works from New Mills in Derbyshire, a short drive from Whaley Bridge, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Disley and Marple.

The design sets the price. Your heat loss decides the size of the unit, and the radiators or underfloor it needs make up the rest. You get one fixed figure in writing after the free design survey, with the running costs beside it. Our guide to heat pump costs works through national install and running figures.

The manufacturer’s warranty is registered in your name at handover. Our 2-year workmanship guarantee on the installation runs alongside it.

Once a year. Our heat pump servicing checks the system against the numbers it was designed to, and the reminder comes from us.
